Gameplay Walkthrough 

Introduction:

This game was created by 2 programmers and 4 artists in the space of 5 months during the global pandemic. While it was supposed to be a VR game, due to limitations on accessing VR equipment, it has since been changed to a non-VR build.

Genre: 

Robot Rampage is a first person, sci-fi, wave based, shooter with elements of survival, and competitive multiplayer.

Theme: 

The main theme of this game is that of an arcade first-person shooter, where the player must complete objectives while also killing robots and earning a higher score.

Concept:

The original design concept was for the game to be played in VR, where players would have to make use of the 360° field of view, alongside using quick reflexes in order to fight their way through waves of enemies to earn the highest score they can. Due to limited access to VR hardware to test the development of the game, it has now been adapted to be played primarily with mouse and keyboard.

Alongside the waves of incoming enemies, the player will also have objectives they will need to complete to progress through the main story of trying to put a stop to the rampaging robots.

The enemies that the player will have to defeat are corrupted robots that have been infected with a virus. These robots come in seven different forms that represent the different zones found within the game and all have their own unique variant of the primary robot gun, the “Hand Phaser” which when the robot is killed, the player can pick up and use.

The game can be played solo or in a competitive mode with another person where they battle online to see who can achieve the higher score.

Setting:

The game will take place in a futuristic city where large old buildings meet new high-tech components.

The city will focus around a ‘main hub’ area that will break off into other districts which act as the levels of the game. These are colour coded to make it easier for the player to distinguish the separate parts of the map and will consist of places such as the china town district, construction district and market district.

 

Story (Detailed)

The year is 20XX. The world has entered a new age of amazing technological advances and has been able to create a paradise where struggles of a bygone era have been snuffed out for good. One of the main contributions to this new enlightened age are the robotic helpers that, together with humans, work together to create a brighter future.

Robot integration has spread far and wide throughout the lives of the citizens of this new utopia. Bots, alongside their human creators, perform service duties such as, construction, firefighting, and policing of streets. Helping to not only speed up production lines, but also keep people safe. 

However, there are still people out there that are not as open to the idea of this new way of living and seek to disrupt the peace… 

It is unknown whether it was a corruption of code or a malicious virus uploaded by an anonymous source, but now our once faithful companions are on a rampage through out the streets leaving everyone terrified for not just their life but their idyllic way of life. 

It is now your task, as a selected special agent, to head into one of these corrupted areas and access the central core to upload an antivirus which should hopefully put a stop to this outbreak!

You will not be going in unequipped though. You will be given access to our most advanced Exo-Suit and our patented E.M. Pistol, designed to neutralise robots. Unfortunately, our resources are limited as we are stretched thin trying to deal with this outbreak around the world. You may be required to use the robot’s own weapons against them to keep them at bay.

To gain access to the core and upload the antivirus, you will need to explore the local districts and shut down the security systems by completing specific objectives as you go. 

Although you must be on guard, for it seems the AI is fully aware of what you are attempting, and we have no idea what it may throw you.
